What is the Taxpayer Advocate Service?

The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) is an independent organization within the IRS. The TAS mission is to ensure that every taxpayer is treated fairly and understands their rights. TAS advocates can help if you have tax problems that you can’t resolve on your own.

When should I contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service instead of the tax clinic?

If you don’t qualify for our services, you may be eligible for help from TAS. Here’s a link to the TAS qualifier tool: https://www.taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov/can-tas-help-me-with-my-tax-issue/.

How do I get help from the Taxpayer Advocate Service?

The TAS website has LOTS of answers about the IRS in general and about specific problems you might have: https://www.taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov/.
