603 Legal Aid Internship Program
603 Legal Aid is a civil legal aid provider offering legal representation, advocacy, and education. In partnership with volunteer attorneys and community organizations, 603 Legal Aid works to make justice a reality for and with people who experience economic hardship that threatens their basic human needs. 603 Legal Aid helps low-income people by providing free civil legal advice and information by telephone, by representing someone in court, or through a referral to a volunteer attorney or another program for legal help.
603 Legal Aid offers dynamic internship opportunities for undergraduate and law students interested in public interest law and social justice. Interns gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced attorneys and advocates, contributing to meaningful legal work that assists underserved communities.
Internship Categories
Undergraduate Internships
Designed for college students interested in exploring legal aid work, social justice, or nonprofit operations. Undergraduate interns may assist with client intake, legal research, outreach efforts, and administrative support.
Law Student Internships
Open to law students who want to develop practical legal skills while serving low-income clients. Responsibilities may include legal research and writing, client interviews, case preparation, and assisting attorneys in the provision of legal services.
Internship Schedule & Commitment
Semester Internships (Fall & Spring)
- Positions Available: 2 per semester 
- Time Commitment: 10–15 hours per week 
- Duration: 12–14 weeks 
Summer Internships
- Positions Available: 2 
- Time Commitment: 30 hours per week (Monday–Thursday) 
- Duration: 10 weeks 
Practice Areas
Interns will gain experience in one or more of the following areas of law:
- Family & Domestic Violence: Assisting survivors with protective orders, custody issues, and other legal matters; helping people in need of services related to divorce, parenting and support. 
- Housing: Supporting tenants facing eviction, unsafe housing conditions, and rental disputes. 
- Pro Bono Coordination: Engaging with volunteer attorneys and community partners. 
- Consumer & Tax Law: Helping clients address debt collection, unfair lending practices, and tax-related issues. 
- Veterans' Legal Assistance: Providing legal aid to veterans navigating benefits and other civil legal challenges. 
- Outreach: Engaging with community partners and members of the public to increase knowledge of our services. 
Qualifications
- Strong interest in public interest law, social justice, or non-profit work. 
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills. 
- Ability to handle sensitive client information with discretion and maintain confidentiality. 
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. 
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 
- Fluency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, etc.) is highly desirable but not required.
